ICT Council Holds Cybercrime Prevention and Awareness

As virtual reality is becoming a part of everyone’s reality bringing in either boon or bane, salient features of the Cybercrime Law were discussed during the 3-hour forum on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at the Session Hall of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
The resource speaker, P/CInsp. June Paolo O. Abrazado of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Cybercrime Group, expounded on the salient provisions of the Anti-Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (otherwise known as R.A. No. 10175), cybercrime prevention and awareness, and tips to secure social account.
General Santos City is one of the places where the first batch of the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) Unit was deployed. ACG handles cybercrime cases since its creation in 2012.
PCI Abrazado revealed that in 2016 the national Anti-Cybercrime Group has accumulated 3,725 reported cybercrime cases in the Philippines.
The forum, which was spearheaded by the City Public Information Office (CPIO) as member of the ICT Council, is one of the events lined up by the organizers during the five-day ICT Summit from October 16-20, 2017. (CPIO/jpa/RSC/datb)
