SOCCSKSARGEN holds Coffee Congress cum Festival 2017 

Coffee stakeholders, coffee producers from Sultan Kudarat and other delegates from SOCCSKSARGEN Area attended the SOCCSKSARGEN Coffee Congress 2017 on November 09-10, 2017 at Phela Grande Convention Center, this City.
Bannered with the theme “SOCCSKSARGEN, Gising na! Magkaisa’t Magkape”, the congress was organized by the Department of Agriculture Region (DAR) XII and the SOCCSKSARGEN Coffee Alliance (SCA) in cooperation with the local government unit of General Santos City, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Regional Agricultural and Fishery Council (RAFC) 12 and ACDI VOCA.
Dr. Dante T. Eugenio, Chairman of SOCCSKSARGEN Coffee Alliance, Mr. Jonathan T. Blando, Executive Assistant of the City Mayor Ronnel C. Rivera, Ms. Ana Mae Sidenio, Head, General Services- DA XII, Ms. Jennifer E. Remoquillo, Assistant Director, Bureau of Plant Industry- High Value Crops Development Program (BPI-HVCDP), Mr. Anthony Bravo- Provincial Director- DTI North Cotabato and Mr. Reynaldo A. Lumaque, Regional HVCDP Focal Person were present dignitaries who led the cutting of ribbon that marked the opening of the exhibit, viewing and coffee toasting and tasting.
The congress consisted of five (5) plenary sessions: Plenary 1 , Coffee Industry Situationer: Production Technology Updates Research and Development; Plenary 2, Coffee Regulatory Initiatives; and Plenary 3, Market Trends and Investment Opportunities of Coffee discussed on Day 1.
Plenary 4 would be Convergence: National Agency Initiatives for the Development of the Coffee Industry in Region 12 and Plenary 5 is on Best Quality Coffee Practices and Experiences which would be discussed on Day 2.
On behalf of the City Mayor, Mr. Jonathan T. Blando, Executive Assistant III delivered the welcome address, he said that the coffee plays vital role in every individual. He also revealed that SOCCSKSARGEN emerged as the top producer of coffee industry in the Philippines.
He further said, “Let us all engage and participate, share knowledge and expertise, learn from each other as we continue gained support from various stakeholders”
Dr. Dante T. Eugenio, Chairman of the SOCCSKSARGEN Coffee Alliance laid the overview and rationale of the said congress. He encouraged everyone to uphold change and surpass the challenges of the coffee industry in SOCCSKSARGEN in order to keep on being the top producer of coffee in the Philippines.(CPIO/Pido/RSC/datb)
