The Local Government Unit of General Santos City with the technical assistance of the USAID Surge further strengthened ties with the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) as it sent the GSC Investment, Trade and Tourism Mission to Clark, Pampanga recently.

The mission aimed at expanding its investment and business partnerships with the CDC. Highligthed during the trade mission was the possible push for Gensan-Clark direct flights. This is seen by some economic managers to bring high influx of tourism and investment in Gensan.

As can be recalled, Gensan through Mayor Rivera made collaboration agreement with the CDC president and CEO Noel F. Manankil sometime in September last year.

According to Mayor Rivera, the activity was to tighten linkages between the city and the Freeport to help achieve mutual economic benefits.

The partnership also aimed to promote collaborative undertakings towards air connectivity of both areas through their airports, organization of trade and business missions that focus on tourism and investments, and exchange of best practices on areas such as agro-industrial development and environmental protection.

Leonard Flores, head of CEMCDO, mentioned the potential of the city ad it is widely referred to as GenSan, a gateway to some tourist destinations in South Central Mindanao.

According to CDC OIC Evangeline G. Tejada,

“We will be very happy if we have a direct air connectivity from Clark to GenSan. Kasi kilala talaga ang GenSan sa inyong mga tuna and sa mga magagandang beaches nearby na pwede ring puntahan ng mga turista.”

Meanwhile, outgoing Vice Mayor Shirlyn Bañas-Nograles in her talk segued the audience to build their dreams in Clark and live there in Gensan. She smiled and a resounding applause from the crowd.

The trade mission turned out to be successful having attained mutual agreement with the team CDC and team Gensan to forge partnership in bringing more economic investments in both areas that will benefit their constituency.

Various stakeholders such as Travel and Tours Association, Association of Hotels and Restaurants expressed their commitment to support the Clark -Gensan flight route.(CPIO/RSC)
